People use it as an excuse. If God brings down judgement, then I can bring judgement. And when God judges he needs someone to carry out the punishment. Thus you end up with righteous wars, and honor killings and the whole lot of stupidity. I think that is what makes Neale Donald Walsch's books so important. If you can believe even a fraction of what he is sharing, it can completely change your life. And if you really understand it, it will be for the better. :-)

But religions have a safeguard against that. They tell you that it's wrong to question God, that you then lack faith and will go to hell. It's so sad. Actually, my first time on the astral with my friend was spent manifesting a representation of all the fear and anger that came with the beliefs about hell so that I could destroy it and free myself.

I'm just thankful I will not raise my children with these ideas. I refuse to scare my child into being a good person.

But back on topic, your last phrase is also important. We look to our God as an example of how to be. Though I don't know too many people who try to be like God, instead they try to be like Christ. So, if you have a good example to follow, you'll be reaching for a higher state of being. Which is probably why we introduce a lower standard for God, because we don't want to reach that standard.

We don't want to love everyone, so we have a choosy God. We don't want to forgive everyone so we have a God that punishes. We want to be special and important so we say God only chooses our group and the rest go to hell. It's crazy. And I'm sick of it myself. I think I can work towards that highest standard, and want to because it means I'm truly helping the world. Will I reach it? Maybe for moments in time, but that's ok. It's the journey that matters, and I have an infinite amount of time to try. :-)
